The Anglican Musicians Foundation (AMF) is a 501 (c) (3) established in 1986 to receive charitable, tax-exempt contributions; grow its funds through careful management of its investment portfolio, and disperse a portion of its income by issuing grants to individuals, programs and organizations.

The Anglican Musicians Foundation is a membership organization.  Members of the Foundation include individuals, corporations, or other entities whose abilities and interests enable them to contribute toward the aims, standards and objectives of the Foundation.  Members are duly elected by a majority vote of the Board of Directors.  The Foundation holds an annual Members Meeting at which time the Directors and Officers are elected by the members.  For more information about the Foundation, please contact:

Common Goals of the AMF and AAM

The AMF takes on as its purpose the elevation, stimulation, and support of music and the allied arts in all their aspects in the Anglican and/or Episcopal Church, and especially in their relationship to liturgy.  Goals of the Foundation include:

  • To keep health and vibrant our strong musical tradition by:
  • Promoting education in establishing equitable and just compensation and benefits in return for our expertise as professional musicians working within the church;
  • Actively encouraging and supporting composers and other artists to create works for the church;
  • Working closely with our seminaries towards the establishment and/or continuation of valid courses of study in music and the allied arts as they relate to worship and theology;
  • Promoting education in fostering a relationship of mutual respect and trust between clergy and musicians;
  • Maintaining direct lines of substantive communication with diocesan commissions on liturgy and music and the Standing Commission on Liturgy and Music, while actively supporting the work of these commissions.

Funding Projects

Through contributions, proceeds of the sale of the “Catalogue,” and careful stewardship of our investment portfolio, the Foundation has been able to award $65,000 in grants since 1992.  Among those projects funded in full or in part by AMF:

  • “Conflict and Closure”
  • “Called to Serve”
  • The Millennium Survey and its report
  • Reprints of the “Catalogue of Anthems and Motets”
  • An AAM/AMF booth at General Convention
  • Mentoring Project
  • “Creating Worship that Works,” a study DVD for rectors and musicians
  • Commissions of anthems, service music and works for organ by more than two dozen composers.

A record of grants awarded is available upon request.

What we want to do

The Foundation will continue to fund worthwhile publications and programs, issue commissions, and support an AAM/AMF presence at General Convention. In addition, the Foundation hopes to: fund sabbaticals and/or research grants for members of AAM; assist with the establishment of a user-friendly and attractive website for AAM and AMF; develop programs that will assist and support musicians working in smaller parishes, and offer programs and educational materials that will encourage members of AAM and others to remember the Foundation in their estate plan.
